Reiki - Is it safe? (Contraindications)

Reiki has not been found to have any adverse effects. As there is nothing about a Reiki session that can interfere with conventional medical care, Reiki therefore has no known contraindications and can be used concurrently with any medical intervention. The touch of Reiki is very light on or even off the body.

It all 'sounds' a bit cuckoo! What is it all about?

Well yes, people do say this, another term used could be 'woo woo' you get my drift! I totally understand why some might think this, and perhaps, I might have said the same thing just a few short years ago, if you'd have told me that I would soon be working with sound, in such a powerful way, as a holistic practitioner, I wouldn't have believed you, despite my love for music and musical instruments of so many kinds, after all, up until recently I was a craft baker by trade, and thought I would always be doing this (written 2020). The thing is until you actually try it, and experience it for yourself (I guess you could say this about a lot of things), but really, until you actually experience 'Sound Therapy', or a 'Sound Bath' then you just won't know, and once you do try it, then I can assure you, you will want to come back, the benefits are just so profound, and on so many levels.

Once that realisation occurred to me, about the huge benefits of Sound Therapy it was a logical step, for me to take, and I absolutely love doing what I do, the feedback I have had has been phenomenal, and especially when you bring people back into the room at the end of the session, and it is so quiet, because they are all so deeply relaxed, maybe, just maybe even a little spaced out for a moment, sound frequency can have that effect sometimes, but ultimately, it is the shifting of energy, to a cellular level, and a calming of the brainwave frequency, that creates that feeling, of such deep relaxation, and every session can be different, depending on where you are in life,  at the time, and what is needed to assist in re-balancing your mind, body and spirit.

I have experienced, early on the power of sound myself, which is why I started on this journey, I felt so relaxed, and at one point, I was actually aware of myself snoring (and I don't usually snore, or at least I don't think so), you see, this is where your body is actually at the point of deep relaxation, for the muscles in the throat, are often the hardest to be able to let go and relax.

After my own experiences, on the receiving end of a session. I felt a renewed sense of purpose and energy, along side lots of research that can now be found into the benefits of 'Sound Therapy' whether for simple relaxation, or a deeper more transformational change, mentally, physically, emotionally, or spiritually, you would actually be cuckoo, not to try it. See for yourself, check out the events coming up, or catch me at an 'MBS' event, to experience a taster session. You can also find out more in-depth about the benefits by visiting the what is sound therapy? page on my website.

You can also find a few links to relevant articles on Sound Therapy, below, including scientific research carried out into how it helps people with memory recall, when they have Alzheimer's or Dementia.

My approach to Sound Therapy is very much down to earth, yet practical and integrates well alongside mainstream medical & care services, whilst maintaining the importance of being open to everyone.

Many clients are often unsure of what to expect at first, but are soon won over by the experience and benefits that they see, after they have taken that initial step.

Do I need to be musical already, or practice Yoga/ Meditation, or other similar forms of wellbeing practice, to benefit from 'Sound Therapy'?

No, you do not need any particular set of skills or previous experience, to benefit from 'Sound Therapy', and you will never be asked to do anything, that you feel uncomfortable with, all you need is an open mind, as there is so much to gain from a Sound Therapy or Soundbath session, when it comes to your wellbeing. Try it once and you will be so in awe at the power of therapeutic sound, that you will instinctively want to experience it, and benefit from it time and again.

How does Sound Therapy affect me? Altered states of consciousness

Every day, we move through various states of consciousness levels, naturally. This is normal, anything form the moment you are just waking up to the moment you go drifting off to sleep, this is changes that occur in your level of consciousness, ultimately, it is all about 'Brainwave Frequency'. Sound Therapy naturally has an effect on your brainwaves, that is one part of how it works, hence when you enter the space you might have had a rough day, and be quite wired, a lot going on in your mind/ an active mind, but one a session begins, then the frequency and vibration of the instruments help to return you to a calmer state, and afterwards, you may feel more alert, but in a clearer way, or more deeply relaxed and rested. The different instruments I use help to achieve the desired outcome, yet every session can be different, depending on how you feel, and what is needed at the time, be it consciously or subconsciously, even if you don't realise it, your body know what is needed. You can find out more about Brainwaves on the what is sound therapy? page on my website.

Do I need to remove my clothes for Sound Therapy or Reiki?

No. You do not need to remove your clothes, during any sessions, be it group Sound Therapy or 1to1 treatments using Sound Therapy or Reiki.

In respect of the term 'Soundbaths' it is simply used to describe the group sessions, because you are being 'bathed' or ''immersed' in sound. The on body technique, used specifically within a 1to1 session, works through your clothing and clients often have a blanket covering them too, for added comfort.

Do you class yourself as a healer?

I believe that we all have the natural ability within us, to heal ourselves. Whether that be mentally, emotionally, physically or spiritually. As well as the benefits described elsewhere on my website, the use of therapeutic sound helps to create an environment, whereby you can do your own healing/ I use person centred and heart centred approaches, which will aid you in the development of a richer understanding of your 'self', your health & your wellbeing, both consciously and subconsciously, creating that step towards a much deeper transformation, assisting you on your journey, experiences and ultimately your health and wellbeing through life.

What is the best way to experience therapeutic sound for the first time?

It is perfectly acceptable, to attend a one to one session first if you wish, but I will often recommend that you experience therapeutic sound by way of a group session first, if possible. This is because it will give you the best possible experience of the variety of instruments I use, in a more gentle way, lulling you into a deeply restorative state of relaxation. It also gives us an opportunity to meet, and if you have any further questions, a chance to chat and discuss your needs, to see if you would like to work with me, in assisting you with your health and wellbeing.

NB: Not all group soundbath sessions are necessarily deeply relaxing. Some sessions, depending on the instruments used, as well as the practitioner holding the sessions, can be quite intense, and can also often depend on how you feel at the time, as well as what is needed both consciously and subconsciously. There are times within the same group session, with the same instruments played, where some will feel deeply relaxed, yet others are not so much so, the reason often being as stated, what is needed at the time for that individual person, within the session, so experiences can differ occasionally. If it is your first experience of a soundbath, it is advisable that you contact the practitioner, for a chat, to ascertain the type of session you are partaking in.

I run regular group soundbath sessions. For all the latest events details and ticket availability, visit the upcoming group soundbaths page on my website, or check out my Facebook page.
